Gillian Frame - Fiddle and Vocals

Young Scottish Traditional Musician of the Year
















Gillian Frame is twenty years old, and comes from the Isle of Arran on the West Coast of Scotland.

Coming from a family of musicians she was introduced to traditional Scots and Irish music at an early age, and began playing the fiddle at age ten. By the age of thirteen she had already recorded an album with family band The Angels Share, during which time were performing regularly at Folk Festivals including Lorient Festival in Brittany.

Since then Gillian has been rapidly increasing experience in all areas of Traditional music, using her talents as a fiddle player and singer. This includes performances at Celtic Connections, various appearances on Radio Scotland, and teaching at schools and summer schools throughout Scotland.

Gillian is presently in third year of the BA(Scottish Music) course at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and intends to make a career as a professional musician.

After forming the band 'Demlinn', with three other girls from the RSAMD, they did numerous festival across Scotland, played live from Stirling Albert Hall for BBC Music Live, and in 1999 competed for the Danny Kyle Open Stage Award.

Out with the band, Gillian has recorded and performed with Margaret and Martyn Bennett.
